BOESHIELD T-9 LUBRICANT - The Fisherman

BOESHIELD T-9 LUBRICANT

Boeshield T-9 was originally developed and licensed by west coast aircraft manufacturer the Boeing Company to fill their need for a superior lubricant and protectant for the aircraft industry. There are a lot of metal and aluminum alloy parts on a plane, whether it’s a single prop, military jet or commercial airliner, and they operate in a wide range of extreme climatic conditions. The Boeshield T-9 formulation, based on a unique combination of solvents and waxes, is designed to penetrate metal pores and dissolve minor corrosion, then leave a resilient waxy coating that lasts for many months. This is just the ticket for a plane that can spend a lot of time in the extreme moisture at tropical sea level and then scant minutes later, cruise in the super-chilled air at 35,000 feet where it’s way below zero. This extreme temperature and humidity shift can wreck havoc on metal parts, and potentially compromise the reliability of the aircraft, hence the need for a heavy duty coating to offer long-term protection.

PMS Products, the consumer distributors for Boeshield T-9, recently introduced it to the tough saltwater marine market for lubricating and protecting all bare surface metals, like stainless steel rails and cleats, plus anodized aluminum hardtop, T-Top and Tower legs and supports. However, research and testing have shown that Boeshield T-9 lubricant also works well on engine surfaces and deck hardware, as well as electronics, battery terminals and accessory panel wiring connections. It is non-conductive and will not cause short-circuiting. It dries to a thin, waxy film that clings to metal for months. It will loosen rusty and corroded parts and is safe on paints, plastics and vinyl.

I received a sample four-ounce aerosol can of T-9 from PMS Products and immediately put it to good use, spraying down the wiring and alligator clip connections for my Mako Magnet that I take with me as standard travel equipment on all of my “away” shark charters. I gave these areas a generous spray and let it sit for a few hours. The net result was a slightly yellowish coating over the exposed metal connections and wiring that should give it excellent protection against the ravages of saltwater spray when traveling on and off a variety of center consoles, express and walkaround sportfishers for the rest of this season and well into next year.

The directions for using Boeshield T-9 couldn’t be simpler. For a heavy coating, spray a liberal amount on the desired area and allow to dry. For a light coating, spray a lesser amount on the area and then wipe off the excess. For removal, simply wipe the treated area with a soft cloth that’s doused with either mineral spirits or a degreaser and it comes off fairly easily.
