COSTA SUNGLASSES - The Fisherman

COSTA SUNGLASSES

You might say that the Costa Sunglass company looks at things from the bright side. They’re currently demonstrating a commitment to sustaining sporting fishing conditions in the places you fish, developing sport fishing in places you may fish someday and they’re offering some of the best sunglasses for being on the water. There’s a lot going on at Costa, so let’s begin with one that really hits home.

Music superstar Kenny Chesney’s announced he’s expanding his partnership with Costa with five new limited edition sunglasses, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Coastal Conservation Association (CCA). With fishing and boating at the core of many of Kenny’s songs, he now makes another strong connection with anglers through contributions. The partnership, which debuted in 2011 on Chesney’s “Goin’ Coastal” concert tour, has raised more than $50,000 for CCA to date. The five new Kenny Chesney Costa styles include Hammerhead, Caballito, Switchfoot, Hammock and Maya, and will retail from $129 to $199. Each style will feature Kenny Chesney’s signature and his palm tree logo inside the frame, and will come in a variety of unique color combinations, including tortoise/light green, black/white and clear/light blue.

Five percent of the sales from this year’s limited edition sunglasses will benefit CCA’s ongoing marine conservation efforts. In addition to CCA’s long history of advocating for the conservation of coastal marine resources, the grassroots organization has helped fund habitat restoration initiatives.

“The partnership with Costa Sunglasses and the Coastal Conservation Association is a natural extension of who I am and what I believe in,” said Chesney. “We live the coastal lifestyle – it’s part of who we are. It’s up to us to help protect and preserve the oceans and beaches for future generations.”

MORE NEW STYLES
Think of Costa’s three new styles – Galveston, Rockport and Seadrift – as rimless sunglasses on steroids. These sleek, sporty styles are unique with full eye coverage and lightweight fit, without compromising durability.
Galveston features large square-shaped lenses for optimal coverage on the water, while Rockport offers thicker, wider temples to block light from entering on the sides. The smaller, super lightweight Seadrift is ideal for high impact, velocity sports where speed is key.

All three styles feature adjustable no-slip Hydrolite™ nose pads and Costa’s signature nylon co-injected temple tips for “forget-they’re-on” fit and durability. Each is available in Costa’s 580P™ 100 percent polarized lens technology, which blocks yellow light from entering the eye, creating razor sharp color enhancement and eliminating glare.
The styles’ color combinations include tortoise frames with copper or silver mirror lenses, or black or silver frames with gray or blue mirror lenses. They retail from $169 to $189, depending on lens selection.

NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT
Halfway across the world, Costa continues its commitment to sport fishing and to helping a less fortunate, resource-starved culture by creating awareness for a truly unique place to fish. The new feature film produced by Costa Sunglasses, Jungle Fish, follows three expert fishermen in a quest to catch the elusive arapaima with a fly rod, a feat never before accomplished. Arapaima can grow to ten feet long and weigh 800 pounds. If the anglers are successful, they will have discovered a new adventure fishing experience for anglers, and created a sustainable sport fishing business opportunity for the people of Rewa, a remote fishing village in the north Rupununi region of central Guyana, population approximately 280.

The newly created sport fishing business model in Rewa is being studied closely to see if it’s a practice that could be replicated in other indigenous areas around the world as a way to sustainably generate income without extracting resources.
