DAIWA MILLIONAIRE M7HTMAG DISTANCE CASTING SURF REELS - The Fisherman

DAIWA MILLIONAIRE M7HTMAG DISTANCE CASTING SURF REELS

There are a core group of surfcasters out there who would rather fight than switch when it comes to conventional versus spinning tackle. There is no debating that each has its own advantages under various circumstances, but for those who like to throw heavy payloads, whether it’s a sinker and bait or hefty artificials, conventional usually comes out on top.

For you conventional baitcasting stalwarts, Daiwa revealed at this year’s ICAST Show that they will begin selling a pair of surfcasting reels from their European Millionaire series in the US. Both reels have proven themselves in European casting competitions and will deliver maximum casting distance right out of the box.

The two reels are the 7HTMAG and the M7HTMAGST. The ST at the end of the model number stands for Super Tuned. Both reels feature the patented Magforce Z system which automatically applies smooth magnetic breaking as the spool approaches maximum speed to prevent overrun, then backs off as the spool slows. This control is critical on these reels, since their spools are capable of reaching speeds of up to 30,000 rpm. The resultant effect is that the spool starts and builds speed faster, thus keeping the spool spinning longer. You can adjust the amount of braking based on various conditions such as wind, the weight of the payload or your casting style.

The basic model features a lightweight aluminum spool, five corrosion resistant ball bearings and a roller bearing, counter-balanced power handle, rigid one-piece frame and Magforce Z.

Line capacity on both reels is 330 yards of 15-pound mono or 200 yards of 20-pound-test. The M7HTMAGST weighs in at 11.5 ounces, while the M7HTMAG checks in a bit heavier at 12.2 ounces. The basic model will cost you in the neighborhood of $300 while the Super Tuned reel is priced at around $500.
