Full Weekend Of Jersey Shore Surf Tournaments

This weekend is busy one for Ocean and Atlantic County surfcasters on the tournament scene.

First up is the 4th Annual Barrier Island Beach Brawl which actually gets underway on Friday, October 7 and runs through Saturday, October 8.  Presented by Nick Honachefsky of the Saltwater Underground, the two-day surf contest runs from Point Pleasant to Island Beach.  Based out of Playa Bowls and Crabs Claw Inn in Lavallette with $45 entry.  Go to saltwaterunderground.com for details.

The Women’s Surf Fishing Club of New Jersey will be hosting their 37th Annual Women’s Surf Fishing Club of NJ Tournament on Saturday, October 8 in Brigantine.  Now in its 70th year, the Women’s Surf Fishing Club of New Jersey will present awards for first, second and third place teams, along with largest and most fish points for individuals 18 and over.  The Renee Kelly Memorial Mermaid Cup will be awarded for largest fish, with the Florence Pancoast Memorial youth award going to largest fish.

Sanctioned by the Association of Surf Angling Clubs (ASAC), team captains only will report to registration on October 8 at the Presbyterian Church 1501 West Brigantine Ave in Brigantine to get score sheets, insurance waivers, and pay for buggy passes ($10).  Team captain registration is from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. Entry fee is $10 per individual, and $60 for a six-member team.  For tournament information contact Reggi Vasta at 215-901-2474 or [email protected].

Also on Saturday, October 8, the 68th Annual LBI Surf Fishing Classic will kick off along the beaches of Long Beach Island for nine weeks, through December 11.  The “derby” features daily, weekly, segment and grand prize awards.  Prizes awarded for striped bass, bluefish, kingfish, redfish and tautog.
