JCAA Heavy Hitters Fluke Tournament From Aug. 4-7

Once again, the Jersey Coast Anglers Association (JCAA) is running its Heavy Hitters Fluke Tournament for four days, August 4-7.  “We realize that not everyone can fish two, three, or four days so to be fair to everyone, each boat will be limited to fishing only one day,” said JCAA’s Paul Haertel, who added “each entrant will be able to choose the day they fish.

For 2022, JCAA has changed the prize structure so that prizes will be awarded to the single largest fish rather than the three fish total. “We did this because New Jersey only allows one fish over 18 inches which means three different anglers would have to catch a larger fluke to be competitive and some of our entrants fish with only one or two anglers,” Haertel said, adding “Also, since it is a one fish tournament, we are allowing six anglers/people per boat rather than just four. That will allow some of the for-hire fleet to join the tournament if they wish.”

There will also be one-fluke and three-fluke calcuttas for those who wish to participate, as well as a sea bass calcutta.  “The big news though is that we will award $25,000 for the largest fluke over 12 pounds caught on Sunday, August 7, the last day of our tournament,” said Haertel, noting that all those who fish the tournament on Sunday will be eligible for this special doormat prize.  JCAA will be paying out prizes based on 150 boats.

Entry into the JCAA Heavy Hitters Fluke Tournament is $175 after for up to six anglers/people per boat. To register online or print the tournament application visit JCAA.org, or call 973-943-8201 for additional details.
