July Fluke Tourney Results In North & South Jersey

While tournament season in 2020 took a hit due to the COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing requirements, a few popular and longstanding summer flounder (fluke) tournaments were held in July.

In North Jersey, the Raritan Bay Anglers Club (RBAC) held their 30th Annual Fluke Tournament on July 12.  “It was tough fishing with wind against tide and a little sporty at times,” RBAC organizers said, adding “But we like to thank everyone again as well as our club members that participated and worked on the tournament and weigh stations.”  A total of over $25 thousand in cash and prizes was handed out, with the top three finishers as follows (with their winning fish):

1st – Manual Prado (6.5)

2nd – Chad Pirchio (6.25)

3rd -Robby Romano (5.8)

In South Jersey, the 27th Annual Duke of Fluke Tournament presented by Sterling Harbor Bait and Tackle was held on July 18 with 86 boats entered and 30 kayaks.  First place with the single heaviest fluke went to Capt. Paul Regalbuto, Jr. aboard the Regal Bouy at 7.24 pounds.  The Junior Angler award went to Charlie Engelien aboard Three-Pete II for a 4.28-pound fluke.   The Duchess Award was handed out to Meagan Trainor aboard Miss Addison II for her 4.25-pound fluke.  First place in the Kayak Division went to Vinson Marina for a 4.28-pound fluke.

Also on July 18, the Staten Island Tuna Club presented their annual Grandpa Savino Fluke Tournament. First place was Little Texas with a combined weight of three heaviest fish of 15.55 pounds; second place was Fatties and Flatties with a combined weight of 15.50 pounds; and in third it was Problem Child with a combined weight of 14.80 pounds.
