The problem is they’re not exactly tough enough for the ride, especially while boating and fishing. With a plethora of fishing, boating, and weather apps, and even integration with our onboard marine electronics, smartphones help keep anglers safe, informed and connected while on the water. Naturally, you want to keep the device, and your investment safe.
By now you’ve probably seen LifeProof cases, but we wanted to bring you up-to-date on some exciting new developments. LifeProof cases are all-protective, everyday cases for smartphones and tablets. Though the design is ultra sleek, lightweight and without the bulk of some other cases, they’re also water-proof, sand/dirt/snow and shock-proof while maintaining full functionality of the device. My LifeProof case fell out of my shirt pocket into a livewell and has been dropped, stepped on, and generally abused, but the phone continues to function.
The protection of a LifeProof box also encourages me to use the phone in ways you wouldn’t think of without the protection of the case. I’ve used it while surf fishing to take underwater video of fish being released. This is only possible because of the water-tight gasket that’s set into a channel on the inside of the case. The upper and lower panels of the case then lock together tightly with an exact fit that sets the gasket into place. There’s also a screw-in plug for the headphone jack that prevents water infiltration. The bottom line is that with the high quality and exceptional reliability of LifeProof cases you gain the freedom to use your devices in all conditions.
I have cases for both my iPhone 5 and my iPad. Four other staffers of The Fisherman also have the iPhone 4 with LifeProof cases and have all been impressed by its benefits. LifeProof has recently introduced new cases for the iPhone 5, called "nüüd." This case is very similar to the iPad case design which seals the edge of the glass screen with a rubberized gasket, leaving the surface of the glass exposed as Apple intended it rather than covered by a scratch protective film such as with the LifeProof "Fre" cases. Cases for the iPad mini, Galaxy SIII phones and iPod Touch devices are also now available. Accessories such as the floating LifeJacket, which keeps your devices floating in the water, were conceived with boaters and anglers in mind. We highly recommend LifeProof cases for the varied conditions of everyday use, along with the more challenging conditions of being on the water.
