The Montauk Surfcasters Association has announced a major expansion of its ongoing efforts to protect and improve fishing access across New York.
Building on the recent formation of the Montauk Surfcasters Alliance—which provides a platform for tax-deductible donations—the group has now introduced the Montauk Sportfishing Affiliates, a lobbying arm focused on advancing fishing access, waterway protections, and fisheries management.
The new organization aims to unify anglers across all disciplines, including surfcasters, boaters, and kayak fishermen, ensuring their voices are represented in key regulatory and access-related discussions. Leadership will include a board of industry stakeholders such as tackle shop owners, marina operators, boat dealers, manufacturers, and fishing clubs.
As part of the expansion, the Montauk Surfcasters Association also announced a shift to a no-dues membership model, removing financial barriers to participation and encouraging broader involvement in advocacy efforts.
Officials say the combined initiatives are designed to strengthen the collective influence of New York’s angling community while continuing a more than 45-year mission to protect fishing access and preserve fisheries for future generations.
