Mustad Tabs New Jersey Captains For Top Brass Positions

Founded in 1832 in Gjovik, Norway, Mustad is steeped in angling history and is the second oldest manufacturer in the fishing industry. Even today, one in every four hooks sold is produced by Mustad – a company with a deep historical vibe that continues to push the boundaries of growth and innovation.

Taking that lead towards new boundaries, Paul Ruda, General Manager of Mustad North America, has meticulously handpicked a team of industry veterans to support him in his new role at Mustad. By assembling a group of individuals who share his passion and vision, Ruda aims to create a formidable force within the fishing equipment industry.

“It’s an honor to serve and lead the Mustad family of brands, focusing on our North American market,” Ruda said, adding “What’s more rewarding is having had the opportunity to build and surround myself with a team of such skill and knowledge-base within our industry.”

Two of the newest Mustad team members in the regional market are well-versed and deeply established in the Jersey Shore recreational fishing community, Brian Perry and Chris Gatley.

As the newly appointed Senior Business Manager for the East U.S. region, Perry brings his expertise in implementing effective strategies and optimizing sales operations. He will lead Mustad’s Eastern sales team, driving revenue generation in this region.

Perry’s passion for fishing, along with his first job as mate on the fishing vessel Outlaw Illustrated that he needed to find a career in the fishing industry. He quips that this job eventually led to where he is today.

“The people involved in the industry are generally down to earth and share the same passion, and it affords the opportunity to work with a great group of people and make a difference in the Industry,” Perry said.

As Northeast Regional Sales Manager for Mustad, Gatley undertakes a pivotal role in orchestrating the sales endeavors within the Northeast region. With a keen understanding of Mustad’s diverse array of fishing tackle and equipment, Gatley is steadfastly dedicated to strategically amplifying the visibility and desirability of these offerings among retailers, distributors, and key stakeholders throughout the Northeast.

Gatley grew up hunting and fishing, which gave rise to starting his New Jersey based Ardent Angler Guide Service targeting tuna offshore and river fishing for trout, steelhead, stripers, and smallmouth bass. His 15-year tenure operating his own guide business brought him to the attention of the nationally prominent sales rep agency, Don Coffee Company, where he transitioned to sales.

When asked what he most looks forward to in the future with Mustad, Gatley said, “I’m most excited to work with the experienced Mustad team and at their willingness to help a newcomer in their organization while participating in the development of innovative new products.”

According to Mustad’s Senior Business Manager Dave Wensel, Capt. Chris Gatley will be reporting directly to Capt. Brian Perry in the Northeast regional market.  “Chris’s strong customer relationships, coupled with his passion and knowledge of the fisheries, complement Mustad’s legacy of trust the consumers and customers expect,” Wensel added.
