NJDEP Fishing Workshops Scheduled In August

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) and its Division of Fish & Wildlife is excited to offer a variety of fishing workshops this August. Select the link below to learn more about each program offered and register today.

August 20Let’s Go Fishing! at Narraticon Lake. The program is open to children ages 10 and older. Those under the age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who will be actively fishing alongside the child.  All bait, tackle and equipment will be provided however, participants aged 16 and over will need to purchase a 2025 NJ Fishing License prior to participating in the workshop. This is a catch and release fishing workshop.

August 23Sisters Afield Hook and Cook at Hackettstown Hatchery. This workshop introduces women along with their child to learn how to fish, including fishing equipment and techniques, safe fish handling, and how to fillet fish for meals. Participants will also experience meal prep techniques not limited to grilled and poached fish.

August 26-27Kayak Fishing at Sedge Island.   Join the NJDEP Fish and Wildlife to try your hand at kayak fishing in Barnegat Bay! This program is designed for experienced anglers aged 18 and older who have their own saltwater fishing rod and reel. The overnight workshop will cover kayak safety, different types of kayaks, paddling skills, casting techniques, and more! Kayaks, paddles, and life jackets will be provided.
