NJDEP Hosts Outdoor Event “Geared To Women Of Color”

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) is offering their Sisters Afield program this spring for women with their children who want to learn the art of angling as a life skill, and to build a community of support for ongoing fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities. “While this program is geared to women of color, all women are welcome,” the NJDEP noted in a press release in January.

Each session has a non-refundable $100 participant fee to cover one female parent/guardian and one child (aged 7-21). You can also save $50 by registering for all three sessions for $250. There is a non-refundable $15 fee for each additional child, up to two children per one adult can participate. Financial assistance is available if needed.

Participants will also have to purchase a 2024 fishing license with Trout Stamp and register for the free Saltwater Registry for this series. Registration fees include most supplies, educational materials, and food/lodging where stated. Most sessions are rain or shine, however, call 609-947-4302 the day before in cases of inclement weather.

There will be an informal virtual Meet & Greet on March 9 at 6 p.m. to answer questions. If interested in participating and want to get more information, email hofnod@dep.nj.gov or go to dep.nj.gov/njfw/fishing/sisters-afield.
