NYCRF Launches Introduction To Surfcasting Seminar Series

The New York Coalition for Recreational Fishing (NYCRF) has announced a new four-part Introduction to Surfcasting seminar series aimed at anglers looking to get started—or get better—in the surf. The series will be led by veteran Long Island surfcasters William “Doc” Muller and Ross Squire, who bring decades of on-the-beach experience to the program.

Held at Sunken Meadow State Park, the seminars will run on Tuesday evenings in March 2026, with exact dates provided upon registration. Topics covered include surfcasting gear and tackle setup, seasonal apparel, lure selection and timing, essential knots, casting technique, and how tides, bait, moon phase, weather, and location influence the bite, with a focus on Long Island surf spots.

The seminar series is free for NYCRF members, with annual membership available for $15. Space is limited to just 20 participants, and advance registration is required. The program is designed primarily for beginners looking to jump-start their surfcasting experience while learning directly from seasoned local anglers.
