This weekend marks the 1-year anniversary of the very first striped bass blitzes at the Jersey Shore for the 2022 season, and surfcasters up and down the coast are hoping lightning strikes again.
On Friday, October 6, the 5th Annual Barrier Island Beach Brawl presented by Nick Honachefsky of the Saltwater Underground will kick off, with the two-day surfcasters only contest running through Saturday, October 7. Based out of Playa Bowls and Crabs Claw Inn in Lavallette, surfcasters competing for special prizes in the “Brawl” can fish between Point Pleasant and Island Beach for their $45 entry. On Saturday, October 7, the 38th Annual Women’s Surf Fishing Club of NJ Tournament will be held on the beach at Brigantine. Sanctioned by the Association of Surf Angling Clubs (ASAC), this one-day event is open to teams and individuals alike and is run according to ASAC tournament rules. Also on Saturday, October 7, the 69th Annual LBI Surf Fishing Classic will kick off on the beaches between Barnegat Light and Beach Haven. Running through December 10, this nine-week surfcasters tournament boasts daily, weekly, segment and grand prize awards with prizes awarded for stripers, bluefish, kingfish, redfish and tautog. A special kickoff seminar will be held on Saturday at the Ship Bottom Fire House.
