Product Spotlight: SXM Marine Fish Mapping App - The Fisherman

Product Spotlight: SXM Marine Fish Mapping App

Last month I was fishing for albies with a captain buddy of mine in blue bird conditions about 20 miles east of shore.  After landing a couple of fish however, we saw on the screen using the SiriusXM weather service that two storms to the west were converging back at home, so we chose to make the run for the barn just in case.  There were terrible thunderstorms all around us as we drove out of the marina, a wise move.

A lot of folks may already subscribe to SiriusXM for enjoying onboard music while they fish, but the SiriusXM Weather ($37.99 a month for Coastal, $64.99 a month for Offshore) just makes perfect safety sense.  It’s an extremely popular tool for charter captains, but more and more private anglers are adding SiriusXM Weather to the mix to always know what’s coming in from behind them.

The next monthly plan above that is the SiriusXM Fish Mapping for about $109.99 a month which includes all the prior mentioned SiriusXM weather information, plus cool fish-finding features including fishing recommendations, weed lines, plankton front strength and contours, sea surface temperature front strength and contours, and more.  For folks who have the full-package SiriusXM Fish Mapping, there’s a new feature you should be aware of that was just launched on September 18, 2023.  SiriusXM Fish Mapping subscribers can now view their favorite fishing features on their phone or tablet to help plan their trips — at no extra cost!

The Fish Mapping App provides access to the same eight dedicated fishing features available on your onboard multi-function display (MFD), plus a couple of additional features exclusively available only on the app, ocean currents and historical data.   The onboard, satellite-delivered service also comes with all of SiriusXM Marine’s weather info, including radar, lightning, storm warnings, wind/wave info, and more. The data is overlaid directly on your charts so you can see information relative to the location of your boat

Fish Mapping is available on compatible Garmin systems using the GXM 54, Simrad & Lowrance systems using the WM-4, Furuno systems using the BBWX4, and Raymarine systems using the SR200.  If your MFD is loaded with the SiriusXM Fish Mapping subscription, grab your smartphone and download the SiriusXM Fish Mapping App so you can start planning your midrange and offshore hunts before you even get to the boat.
