Offshore Tournaments At The Jersey Shore This Week

With bigeye, yellowfin, marlin and mahi reports getting hotter, the offshore tournament season is also heating up with a number of options to choose from.

This week, the 53rd Annual White Marlin Invitational.  Presented by Beach Haven Marlin and Tuna Club will run out of Beach Haven from August 17-20.  With South Jersey Yacht Sales and PENN Reels as this year’s presenting sponsors, the festivities get underway on Wednesday with the in-person registration from 3 to 5 p.m., followed by captains meeting and lobster/clam bake presented by Johnson Towers.  Starting Thursday and running through Saturday, it’s captain’s choice two of four available fishing days.  For details go to www.thewmit.com.

This Saturday, August 20, the Jersey Coast Shark Anglers (JCSA) will host their first annual Veteran’s Tuna Tournament in honor of wounded veterans.  The tournament runs on Saturday and Sunday, August 21, with tournament crews choosing one of the two contest days.  Entry is $500 per boat with a portion of tournament proceeds going to support wounded vets.  The captains meeting is Friday, August 19 at JCSA club headquarters at 385 Herbertsville Road in Brick.  For details contact Rick Carroll at 732-773-3409 or Joey Kayhart at 862-432-6814 or go to jcsa.org.

And of course, the region’s big event is the 31st MidAtlantic slated for the week of August 21-26 with Canyon Club Resort Marina in Cape May serving as the event’s home port and Sunset Marina in Ocean City, MD designated as the tournament’s lone satellite port. Eligible species include white marlin, blue marlin, tuna, dolphin and wahoo. With its unprecedented dockside hospitality, generous cash payout structure and “who’s who” field of participants each year it’s no wonder the MidAtlantic continues to set the standard other events are measured by.

“The tournament has attracted the best in offshore fishing dating back to the inaugural event in 1992,” Merrill said, adding “Another record purse is expected and another exciting week at the scales will no doubt take place.”  For information contact Tournament Director Aaron Hoffman at 609-884-0177 or visit themidatlantic.com.
