The fall of 2023 had a little bit of everything, from summerlike sunny days to powerful storms and wind-driven waves. While it wasn’t the best albie season we’ve ever seen in New England, it was a good one with widespread action that seemed to survive every obstacle until the water temps plummeted in early November. Togging was exceptional, with two over 20 pounds reported and at least three others from 17 to 19 pounds. One of the greatest trends we’re seeing though, is the careful release of these dinosaurs, even the 21-pound giant from eastern Connecticut was released after an official weigh-in. It’s been a good fall season, which will hopefully be followed by a swift winter with plenty of angling opportunities.

Lochlan Wilson and his grandmother, Lynn, enjoyed some great mixed bag bottom fishing – Lochland landed this nice fluke and Lynn had a solid tog. Looks like a great day out with the family!
Collin Trowbridge with a pair gator blues landed on an October trip aboard the Black Hawk running out of Niantic, CT.
Thomas Drake with a nice summer striper taken at the end of August in western Long Island Sound.
Drew Gardella with a slot bass that he landed while fishing in Long Island Sound, love the shades!
Long Island Sound seemed to have the best of the albie fishing for the majority of the fall run, here’s Ryan Thomas with a nice one. Photo courtesy of Fisherman’s World.
Koda Nunez with his first-ever striped bass and his dad, Johnny, wearing that unmistakable ‘proud papa’ grin!
The albies stuck around late in Buzzards Bay this season, here’s John Mei with a plump one taken on tog trip aboard Little Sister Charters running out of Westport, MA.
Here’s another happy customer from Little Sister Charters with a nice tog.
