Preceded by heavy rains and oppressive heat, the Independence Day weekend at the Jersey Shore was filled with fantastic weather and plenty of outstanding action.  Here’s just a small sampling of the holiday weekend catches emailed in by readers of The Fisherman from the New Jersey, Delaware Bay region.

Andrew Burby said he and his first mate (his 2-1/2-year-old son) fished the sticky stuff of Long Branch on the Fourth of July catching a limit of fluke to 27 inches, 7 pounds using 6-inch Gulp grubs.

Mike Velez headed south with the kayak on July 5th after grabbing some sand fleas from Gabriel Tackle, using Bottom Sweeper jigs on the outgoing tide to keep a couple of sheepshead for the table. Mike reportedly left them chewing!

Eryk Lewandowski was fishing on the final night of the holiday weekend at Indian River Inlet in Delaware and caught a bluefish, a striper and this 23-inch, 4.8-pound summer flounder on a blue and silver Windcheater retrieved slowly.
