By boat and surf the cobia bite has been excellent in 2024.

There’s no denying that cobia has become a regular summer species around Long Island during the past few years. The main concentration of them seems to be along the South Shore from Fire Island Inlet, heading west to the Bight, with some individual catches of 65 pounds reported in recent weeks. Most of the fish are not far off the beach, hanging around bunker pods and schools of rays. In some cases, shore fishermen have been able to score with cobia from the surf as well as using chunk baits. Will we continue to see an upward trend of cobia catches in 2025?
