Photo Gallery: School’s In Session

Before a return to reading, writing and arithmetic, these young anglers were catching.

Heading back to school after another long, hot summer of fun was always painful to me as a kid.  Honestly, it was made even worse as a teenager playing high school football when the summer ended even earlier in August thanks to double-session two-a-day practices and endless laps around the field.

We receive a lot of photos here at The Fisherman (info@thefisherman.com), sometimes too many to even process; but when it comes to you young anglers, whiling away their time in class right now while reminiscing about the summer fun, we try to do our best to put the spotlight where it belongs, on you!

My advice to you kids is simple; study, work hard, and enjoy every moment you can with a bend in the rod.  Honestly, it’s the advice I give myself every day!

Rocco-Cantillo
Rocco Cantillo, a shop regular at Creekside Outfitters in Waretown, shows off a nice largemouth caught while fishing the lake at Ocean Acres. According to Creekside, young Rocco is a “bass fishing machine in southern Ocean County.”
Rylee-Selph
Nine-year-old Rylee Selph (9 years old) caught her first bass – and a catfish – all by herself while fishing Echo Lake in Howell on August 1. True, she had help holding the fish, but she cast and hooked this largie on her own.
William-Craig
William Craig of Mantua caught his biggest triggerfish to date back on August 26 while fishing out of Cape May on his grandpop’s boat. The report we received indicates triggers are William’s favorite fish to catch.
Chase-Darpino
Chase “The Catfish Catcher” Darpino proves he’s no one “fish trick” pony, declaring victory yet again on a secret dock along an unnamed lake with this fine largemouth bass.
Aurelia Bowen
Aurelia Bowen (age 7) was crabbing and fishing with her dad Rich near the Mantoloking Bridge on August 25 and caught her first ever kingfish on a squid strip using a chicken rig. “We also had pufferfish and lots of short fluke in the mix,” Rich said.
