Product Showcase: Gill Waterproof Boot Socks

It’s getting to be that time of year when dampened knee-high socks worn under waders and deck boots hang from racks in the garage to dry. Truthfully, my wife doesn’t care so much for the fall run. Whether cotton in the early part of the season or wool come winter, warm and comfortable boot socks rarely go three-for-three in terms of the dryness factor. However, I plan on entering the 2019 fall run with a new solution from the folks at Gill marine apparel, the new Gill Waterproof Boot Sock.

Designed to pull up just below the knee, Gill’s Waterproof Boot Socks are designed with a durable nylon outer layer and a 50% merino thermal inner with wicking capability. With 80% nylon and 20% elastane outer, and an inner built with 95% polyester and 5% elastane, these knee-highs are thin enough to wear on deck or with your snuggest-fitting waders. Available in small, medium and large sizes, the knee-high boot socks retail for $55 and should make a welcomed addition to my surf apparel in the fall; the wife is anxious to see the garage cleaned up.

On the inshore grounds, if you prefer to wear your socks a bit lower, the smaller Waterproof Boot Sock from Gill (MSRP $40) is slightly shorter for low-top deck shoes or calf-high deck boots. Just like the boot version, the Gill Waterproof Socks also features a durable outer layer and a thermal inner with wicking capabilities and pulls up around mid-calf.

Founded in 1975 by Nick Gill, Gill designs and manufactures marine gear and sailing clothing that performs well in the most adverse conditions, but is also fairly priced. Their clothing is sold worldwide, but has more recently been embraced by retail outlets and anglers in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.
