Riptide Fall Striper Derby Is Underway

The annual Fall Striper Derby at Riptide Bait and Tackle in Brigantine is officially underway though December 22.  “We will have the same rules as last year with the three heaviest fish in the striper, black drum, and blues fish divisions collecting the cash prizes,” said Riptide’s Andy Grossman, noting that striped bass must be 28 to less than 38 inches, drum must tape out to at least 16 inches, while there’s no size limit on bluefish.

Entry fee is $30 with cash prizes of $500, $300 and $150 for the top striper weigh-ins of the contest, $300, $200 and $100 for top bluefish and drum.  Winners will be determined by weight, then length as a tiebreaker.

“This year the City of Brigantine has asked that for the month of September that we can only drive the front beaches from 7 p.m. until 9 a.m. and we must be off the beach by 9 a.m.,” Grossman said, adding “Starting October 1 we will be allowed to drive the front beaches of Brigantine 24 hours a day.”

“You must have a valid brigantine beach 4×4 permit along with a valid 2020 Fall Riptide Derby Permit to drive the front beach and obey all local laws and regulations for driving on the beach,” he added.

All cash prizes will be awarded after the conclusion of the tournament at Riptide Bait & Tackle.  “Please don’t lose the fact that the main reasons we run this tournament is to raise money for local charities,” Grossman noted.  For answers to any questions you may have regarding the Riptide Fall Striper Derby or driving the beaches of Brigantine this fall call Riptide Bait and Tackle at 609-264-0440.
