Riptide’s 2021 Riptide Derby Is Underway In Brigantine

The annual Riptide Derby is once again underway along the beaches of Brigantine.  Presented by Riptide Bait and Tackle, the surfcasters only contest will run until December 22.

“This is a fishing tournament that will allow you to drive on the front beach of Brigantine NJ as long as you are in the act of fishing,” said Riptide’s Andy Grossman, who explained that anglers must have a valid Brigantine 4×4 permit along with a Riptide 2021 Fall Derby permit, so long as you’re in the act of fishing the front beaches with our vehicle.  “The police will be checking and making sure you have both permits if you are on the front beach,” he added.

This year’s Derby will have four divisions, Striper, Bluefish, Black Drum, and Tog. Size limits will be striper 28 to less than 38 inches, drum at 16 inches, blues starting at 14 inches and tog at 15 inches.  The three heaviest fish in each division will divide up the $3,000 prize pool.

The contest started on September 7, but you can still sign up to fish the derby through December 22 by visiting Riptide Bait and Tackle in Brigantine. For more details call Capt. Andy at 609-264-0440.
