RISAA Spring Surf Fishing Club Challenge Results

The annual Rhode Island Saltwater Anglers Association (RISAA) annual Spring Surf Club Challenge took place on the weekend of June 19-21. This year saw seven local clubs participate including RISAA, Massachusetts Striped Bass Association (MSBA), Narragansett Pier Sport Fishing Association, Narragansett Surfcasters Club, Pioneer Valley Boat & Surf Club, Rhode Island Mobile Sportfishermen, and Weekapaug Surfcasters. All waters of Rhode Island were open for fishing, including Block Island, with weigh stations posted across the state. Striped bass and bluefish were eligible, and each club’s final score would be determined by the total combined weight of their three heaviest striped bass and bluefish.

Results Summary:

  • Team Title: RISAA with a combined striped bass and bluefish weight at 38.93 pounds
  • Charles Bradbury Memorial Award for heaviest bass: Kevin Johnson at 17.20 pounds
  • Heaviest Bluefish: Ron Barnes at 3.45 pounds

The RISAA Surfcasters Committee would like to thank its fellow surf fishing clubs and their members for participating in this year’s Spring Challenge. $525 was raised and donated to the RI Community Food Bank.

The annual Fall Challenge is scheduled for the weekend of October 16 – 18.
