I don’t leave the home or the dock for that matter without my eyewear, even on cloudy days. Sunglasses are an integral part of my tackle box and they have sometimes meant the difference between spotting and catching fish or avoiding mayhem and danger while afloat. I even pack a spare pair for those who forget or if they fail me while fishing; they are that important to my angling. Eyewear has even saved me from harrowing experiences with treble-hooked lures that bounced harmlessly off the frames and lenses.
Despite running into a staunch headwind, the glasses never left my face, were hardly noticeable and at day’s end, didn’t leave those painful pinches from the nose pads or ear pieces. The Salt Life Sport Optics performed as importantly as any well-balanced rod and reel combo and rivals any I have worn. Rest assured they will be a solid choice whether you’re pushing offshore into blue water, working shallow water flats or prowling the surf.
Kevin Kuriawa, sales manager for Salt Life Sport Optics, shared several key aspects that separate these glasses from so many others currently on the market. “The Salt Life sunglass collection features frames handmade in Italy of the highest quality materials,” according to Kuriawa. He added that “the collection features Zeiss polarized optics, which were designed exclusively for Salt Life Optics.” Those in-the-know should be very familiar with the Zeiss brand of optics, particularly with their line of spotting scopes and binoculars.
Zeiss lenses are available in two exclusive tints and provide for the first time, True Color Recognition, which allows the angler to see colors as they truly are in nature while maintaining brilliant clarity. RiPel super hydrophobic coating, created by Zeiss, repels water, dirt, oil, salt, and dust and provide an easy cleaning surface. AR-5, a brand new five-layer anti-reflective coating, guarantees fishermen uncompromised vision from the world’s inventor of anti-reflective coatings without any distortion or blind spots. All of these Zeiss lens coatings are vacuum-sealed to ensure they do not delaminate!
One of the most troublesome aspects is having to first find a clean cloth and wipe your lenses down after a brisk run in the chop across the water. During the course of our fishing day, this proved unnecessary with the Salt Lifes. The frames were ergonomically accurate, conforming to the face and blocking out virtually all ambient light. Through a partnership with Carl Zeiss Vision Laboratories, Salt Life Sport Optics are now available in prescription. Both single vision and progressive lenses are available. This is great news for those who can never find fit-overs that match their individual frames.
Salt Life sunglasses are the complete package with Zeiss optics, handmade Italian frames, brilliant clarity, premium polarized polycarbonate lenses, 100 percent UV protection, superior resistance against impact, scratching, thermal shocks, humidity, and salt water. Suggested retail is from $179.99-$199.99, and includes a hard case and cleaning cloth.
