The Saltwater Underground’s Nick Honachefsky is happy to announce the return of the Barrier Island Beach Brawl from Friday, October 8 through Saturday, October 9. This third annual surfcasters event from the south side of Manasquan Inlet to the north jetty at Barnegat Inlet.
There are over 15 eligible species for this year’s event, with a catch and release striped bass photo division, a local “classics” division (bluefish, weakfish and blackfish), as well as a “wildcards” category. See Nick’s “Beach Brawling” article for more about those species and tactics to win.
“Last year we gave out over $18,000 in free fishing gear and cash prizes and donated 50 pounds of fresh fish fillets to charity to feed the homeless and hungry,” Nick said of the 3rd Annual Beach Brawl. The tournament will be run out of Playa Bowls and the Crab’s Claw Inn in Lavallette with entry just $45.
