Although we mentioned that there was a mako moratorium for the 2024 season in John Raguso’s recent “Getting Ready for the Season” story in our March edition, the NOAA ‘shark identification chart’ that we printed was issued in 2019 and indicated outdated size and retention limits. Although this shark identification chart is a great tool for helping anglers identify some of the pelagic warriors that venture into our local waters, we want to make it infinitely clear that, for the 2024 season, shortfin mako sharks cannot be retained and must be released unharmed if caught. We apologize for any confusion!
