TOGS AROUND THE ISLAND

We’re right smack in the middle of a hot tog season. From the minute it opened anglers were hooking into bully blackfish in their favorite rocky haunts around the island. Both shores have been having outstanding fisheries so far and we are looking forward to the coming weeks when the real beasts come out to play. Make sure those knots are tight and hooks are sharp!

Anthony Vernola headed across the Sound out of Huntington and fished the Stamford area in 15 feet of water where he connected with this 9-pound blackfish on October 17th.

In about 50 feet of water off of Montauk Lenny Baldassare connected with an 8-pound tog using green crab for bait in mid-October.

@chefbomb2020 on Instagram used a Joe Baggs tog jig in glow white color to connect with a solid keeper while fishing out of the Northport area.

Joseph Yam hit the shore tog grounds and was able to dupe a 17-incher using his “JYam Jig” baited with a green crab.

Chef Ryan Lory had himself a banner day by starting off the morning with over 30 stripers caught on topwater lures and then catching his personal best tog of 9 pounds in 12 feet of water on a Joe Baggs tog jig.
