BOAT & SURF SHOWS THIS WEEKEND

Whether you are into fishing from boats or the beach, there is plenty for you to do this weekend. Boating anglers can drop their hook at the Jacob Javits Convention Center where the 2016 Progressive Insurance New York Boat Show is berthed from January 6th through the 10th. You’ll find aisles of fishing boats and thousands of marine accessories at the world’s first and longest running boat show. Sharpen your boating skills with interactive daily seminars and the Progressive Boat School, where visitors can boost their boating IQ, test the waters on land through a boating simulator.

Of particular interest to Fisherman readers is the seminar line-up presented by the Recreational Fishing Alliance (RFA) in partnership with The Fisherman Magazine. Local captains sharing their advice on New York and New Jersey area fishing include Austin Perilli, Chris Squeri, Vinnie Calabro, Frank Crescitelli, Joe Paradiso, Tom Mikoleski, Joe Mattoli, Rich Tenreiro and Rick Woerner. John Vargo will head up the Hudson River for stripers in a Thursday discussion, The Fisherman’s Fred Golofaro will spotlight light tackle bucktailing on Friday, while world record holder Ken Westerfeld will talk titanic tog on Saturday. There’s also a full complement of valuable electronics ‘how to’ seminars with Raymarine, Navionics and ICOM America.

Be sure to stop by The Fisherman Magazine booth to subscribe with a special gift offer as well. And don’t forget, we’ll be awarding that Dream Boat to one lucky, hard-fishing subscriber at 1 p.m. Saturday at the seminar stage.

Presented by the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA), the event runs from noon until 9 p.m. from Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $15 for adults, while children 15 and under are admitted free with adult admission. The Javits Center is located on the west side of Manhattan at 655 West 34th Street.
