The Catch for the Cure Tournament was started in 2013 by John Carlo in memory of his mother who lost her courageous battle with cancer earlier in the year. The tournament benefits Closer to Free, a joint fund for Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven Hospital and the Yale Cancer Center.
Lines in at 12:01 AM on August 30 and the final weigh-in at the Branford Elks (minimum weight for weigh-in is 11.5 pounds) is at 4:00 PM. Weigh-ins will begin at 10:00 AM. There will be cash prizes paid out for the top three heaviest bluefish as follows:
First Prize: $2,500.00
Second Prize: $1,250.00
Third Prize: $500.00
The tournament entry fee is just $45 for adults, $20 for kids 16 and under, and includes a picnic after the final weigh-in at the Branford Elks Club, 158 South Montowese Street, Branford, CT. There will be raffles as well as a silent auction at the picnic, and tickets may be purchased for the picnic-only for $20 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under.
