The 6th Annual RFA Bass River Summer Flounder Tournament will be held out of Viking Yachting Center on the Bass River in New Gretna this Saturday, June 2. Cash prizes in the “Bass River Classic” are awarded to the top three boats in the contest ($1,000, $750 and $250) based on combined weight of the heaviest two summer flounder, but there’s also a $1,000 cash bonus presented by Yamaha Marine Group to the RFA active member crew that lands the heaviest fluke of the tournament.
In addition to Calcutta payouts and door prizes at the awards ceremony, all anglers under 12 weighing in a summer flounder were also presented with a certificate of excellence (with special prizes awarded in the youth division). Registration is $100 per boat and can be done at Breeze’s Bar & Grill on the Bass River in New Gretna until the 6 p.m. captains meeting on Friday, June 1. Contest rain date will be Sunday, June 3.

Next week, RFA has partnered with Fin Chasers’ Captain Frank Crescitelli in bringing back The Manhattan Cup on June 8. With all proceeds going toward the conservation and awareness of the marine resources and wounded veterans, it’s the only tournament where teams compete in a live release format to catch the biggest and the most striped bass, bluefish and weakfish. All in the shadows of downtown NYC and the Statue of Liberty, home to the most amazing run of striped bass in any river on the East Coast!
You can fish aboard one of the top charter or light tackle guide boats, or with a local “sharpie” all with “local knowledge” by going to the website and making a donation that will entitle you and your team the boat and crew for the day. These boats are donated for your enjoyment and the proceeds of your donation are used to benefit our charity recipients. There are a limited number of high performance boats available from two man flats skiffs to multi-engine center consoles.

The Hi-Mar Striper Club will hold their annual spring striped bass fishing tournament this Saturday, June 2 “Honoring our Armed Forces.”
The tournament runs Saturday from 5 a.m. until 5 p.m. out of the Atlantic Highlands Marina, with mandatory captains meeting on Friday, June 1 at 7 p.m. at the VFW Post 6902 Post (Hall), 331 Bay Avenue in Highlands, NJ. As of Delaware’s participation in National Fishing and Boating Week from June 2-10, DNREC Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police will hold its 32nd Annual Youth Fishing Tournament from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 2 at Ingrams Pond (Millsboro), Akridge Scout Reservation (Camden) and Lums Pond State Park (Bear). Park admission fee waived for tournament participants.
The tournament is open to youths ages 4 through 15. An adult must accompany youths under age 12 and contestants must bring their own fishing equipment. Prizes to all participants will be awarded at 1:30 p.m. in three age groups: 4-7, 8-11 and 12-15. The tournament is free and open to the public. Participants are asked to arrive before 10 a.m. to register for the tournament.
Anglers are reminded that even though they don’t need a license to fish on those two days, those who are age 16 and older are still required to obtain a free Fisherman Identification Network (F.I.N.) number, available online at www.delaware-fin.com or by calling 1-800-432-9228.
