Bob from Bob’s Bait and Tackle reported plenty of striped bass and bluefish around. Most of the bass have been running oversized, but there are some keeper-sized fish mixed in. The backside of Democrat Point, Jones Inlet and several of the local bridges have all been holding bass, giving anglers a number of options depending on the tide and conditions.

Bob Rose at Bob's Bait and Tackle in Amity Harbor reported the fall fluke run is on, in Fire Island Inlet. A lot of keepers were caught from the bridge to inlet. The action has produced a lot of keepers, with peanut bunker, Gulp or standard spearing and squid on a bucktail. Striper action is also good just outside the inlet on Diamond Jigs. Under the bridges near Jones, soft plastics produced bass. In the ocean, sea bass and porgies are on all the wrecks.

Bob from Bob’s Bait and Tackle let me know there weren’t any reports during the storm since the beaches were closed and conditions kept most anglers off the water. He said that historically, a storm like this can trigger some very good striper action along the South Shore once the ocean begins to settle. The shop is fully stocked with surf plugs and other fall-run essentials for anyone looking to get back out once conditions improve.

Bob Rose at Bob's Bait and Tackle in Amity Harbor said that needless to say, it was a tough week on the fishing front. However, several anglers did come in Friday for clams to head to the North Shore beaches for porgies! The storm has passed and the shop is fully stocked. As Bob said, “Typically, a storm like this gets the fall going, and should make stripers and blackfish be more active.” The season is far from over, so don’t give up just yet.
