Captain Skippy Charters

Capt. Brian of Captain Skippy Charters in Mount Sinai reports the striped bass fishing remains stellar as we come to mid-July. There is a ton of bait in the water to keep the bass happy, mostly a combo of bunker, anchovies, sand eels, butterfish and spearing which are creating many surface blitzes with school size and slot size bass. There are many oversize fish as well crushing the bigger baitfish. Skippy continues to collaborate with Gray Fish Tag giving anglers the unique opportunity to catch, tag, name and release over slot size stripers all in the name of science. This week’s shoutout goes to 13-year-old Jasper who caught and tagged a 33 inch striper he named “Dingus”. Fluke fishing has slowed quite a bit with some keeper size fish mixed in with tons of shorts. Porgies are around but you have to do a bit more hunting for them as they seem to be moving constantly to flee from the striped bass. With schools locked up for summer and the current heat wave there’s no better time to cool off than by getting your family out on the water for some hot action. Call (631) 252-6536 to book a trip.

Capt. Brian of Captain Skippy Charters in Mount Sinai reports that the great striped bass bite continues with many oversize bass and enough slot size fish to fill out boat limits primarily on live bait although trolling and dropping jigs are still producing well at certain stages of the tide. Skippy continues to collaborate with Gray Fish Tag giving anglers the unique opportunity to catch, tag, name and release over slot size stripers all in the name of science. This week’s shoutout goes to 13-year-old Quinn who caught, tagged and released a 37-inch bass that he named “Sheriff Johnny Biscuits”. There has been great fluke action with some keeper size fish in the mix. Porgies are around in good numbers but you have to do a bit more hunting for them as they seem to be moving constantly to flee from the striped bass. With the current heat wave there’s no better time to cool off than by getting your family out on the water for some hot action. Call (631) 252-6536 to book a trip.
