In from Richie at Dick's B&T in Mastic Beach we learned fluke fishing was good during the week. The outgoing tide has produced fluke between 7 and 8 pounds, with plenty of shorts in the mix too. Patrick Walsh and his friends had a limit, with the largest being 4 and 7 pounds. The best action has been in front of Forge River and buoys 12 to 14. Bigger fish seem to be biting in pretty shallow water - 5 feet. Bluefish action is excellent and there are some real large ones in the mix over 10 pounds. Joe and Mark had five bass earlier in the week, but on Friday they got out again and found just blues, no bass. A few boat guys have trolled up some keepers stripers on the outside and also had fish on Diamond jigs.

Rich from Dick’s B&T said it blew wide open last week with slot sized bass hitting the beach at Smith Point. Rich told me the bass have been on Tsunami shads and Bass Assassins as well as Zooms. Friday the big bluefish came in and invaded the entire Narrows up to 10-pounds plus. Cranberry Dock has been producing for customer Joe Mark. He had a 10-pounder and lost a few others. Bluefish are also on the open beach by Cut 2 and inside Moriches inlet. Most bluefish are being caught on SP Minnows and most types of towwater plugs.

In from Richie at Dick's B&T in Mastic Beach we learned large blues have arrived, with a lot of bass in the slot range right before the choppers arrived. As of Friday, the choppers have taken over the bay, with a lot of fish being caught. For bass, head up into the shallower waters with soft plastics and SP Minnows for school and slot size fish. Earlier in the week, while fishing Cranberry, one angler had a 30-inch bass, while his buddy, while throwing bucktails, landed a 28 inch fish. As for fluke, opening day produced some short fish.
