Rich from Dick’s Bait & Tackle reported strong surf action earlier in the week from the beach side of Smith Point, particularly in front of the pavilion, with Cut 1 also producing. Sandworms have been working well along the front beaches, while back bay anglers using swim shads are seeing good action around bridges and tidal drains in the Narrows. The combination of moving water and bait continues to drive the bite.

In from Richie at Dick's B&T in Mastic Beach we learned earlier in the week, Pete Scourby fished the ocean and used sandworms. He had a 24-inch bass, then followed it up with a 26 inch the following day. A few bass were reported on jigs mid-week near the bridge and Narrow. The latter part of the week, due to weather, slowed a bit. Bass are very active in the bay with popping plugs, SP minnows, jigs and bait working well. A few anglers are trying for flounder has been minimal as bass are taking the baits. A few small blackfish have been reported at the jetty, but the inshore/nearshore waters were quiet. The fish appear to be deeper than most guys care to travel.

Rich from Dick’s Bait & Tackle said the Narrows area has been slower overall, with mostly schoolie bass being caught on soft plastics. However, he did note a solid presence of bunker in the bay, which could quickly turn things on if larger bass begin to key in on that forage.

In from Richie at Dick's B&T in Mastic Beach we learned of some school bass reported at the Smith Point Bridge. On the outside, blackfish are on the wrecks. Back inside the bay, soft plastics have been worked hard to no avail. Fish are around as osprey are finding bunker as several anglers reported seeing them with fish.
