In from Richie at Dick's B&T in Mastic Beach we learned it was a quiet start to blackfish and flounder seasons due to some east winds and water temps still on the cold side. For flounder, you might be able to pick some in the eastern canals or near the Smith Point Bridge. Blackfish should be on the rocks near the inlet, and on the outside structure. School bass have already been rumored, but nothing solid.

In from Richie at Dick's B&T in Mastic Beach we learned the season is just beginning with anglers milling about in search of small stripers. Richie said several anglers stopped by for new reels and spooling up rods. Rod and reel repair is still the top item. If you want to try for white perch, nightcrawlers are a great option. Hopefully the 1st will bring on better reports with blackfish and flounder seasons opening.
