It was a picky week of fishing in the backwaters according to Bob over at Dockside Bait and Tackle. Striped bass fishing was relegated to night fishing with eels and fluke fishing was mainly on the outgoing tide and dominated by short fish. Some spot and small blues were also caught by light tackle fishermen. He ended his report by saying angler participation was lower than normal for this time of the year.

“For all intents and purposes it was a slow week in the back waters for fishermen,” said Ken over at Dockside Bait and Tackle. Ken told me while we needed the rain it came with a price. That price was muddy water pouring in from the Raritan River which made for some tough conditions in the back of the bay. This held the fishing back until late in the week when the water started to clear up. He told us the shop got word of some big stripers being caught about a mile off the Hook and down from the Hook. There were also some reports of blues in the Carteret area. The bunker also moved out of the backwaters into the bay.
