A call to Laurie Murphy at Dows Boat Rentals got us a rundown on the fishing in the state’s biggest lake. She told us the lake has lost about 10 inches of water as the state is using the water to keep levels in the Musconetcong up. Walleye fishing has been good in the evening and after dark and some hybrids are also being caught. Crappies and some perch are hitting around the bridges and some of the docks also in the evening. Largemouth and smallmouth are being caught from around the docks and in the backwater areas where there is still some vegetation. Lastly she said a few nice catfish are also being caught mixed in with the walleyes, especially after dark.

A call to Laurie Murphy over at Dow’s Boat Rentals told us angler participation was very low this past week. A few local fishermen are picking up walleyes after dark and in the evenings and some crappies and perch are being caught by the bridges and bulkheads. She told us this fishing gets better in November, especially the walleye fishing as the water cools down. Smallmouth and largemouth fishing was also on the upswing and here too the bass will be moving into deeper water in November. She mentioned that water levels are slowly going down in the lake and the annual drawn down in the fall, which takes place in November, may not be needed or could be delayed because of the drought.
