Hi-Hook Bait and Tackle

Rob at Hi-Hook Bait and Tackle in Huntington reports blackfish are everywhere there is a rock in 25 to 35 feet of water. Target Rock, Buoy 11 B and 28 C are producing tog to 8.65 pounds which was caught by Mike Pergula fishing off Target Rock using green crabs. Striped bass are inside Cold Spring Harbor pounding on Storm Swim Shads with the peanut bunker imitation doing the trick. The bays and harbors are loaded with spearing and peanut bunker which is why the bunker imitations are producing so well. Sea bass can still be found in the deeper depths, particularly in 100 feet of water with clam and crab bait fitting the bill. There are some squid inside Huntington Bay with the night bite under the lights producing 6 to 10 pieces of calamari per angler.

Rob at Hi-Hook Bait and Tackle in Huntington told me some anglers got out this past week and weekend finding a good pick of blackfish at the Brush Pile and Marshall Field with green crabs doing the trick. Some highlights this week included Bucky with a blackfish of 6.53 pounds, Joe Zuepoli drilling one out of the rocks of 5.15 pounds and Tim Rumell with a 6.45-pounder. Before the storm Cold Spring Harbor and buoy 15 was producing good striped bass fishing with trolling Mojo’s, dropping diamond and flutter jigs and bucktails were all sharing their turns at duping the bass. Sea bass off buoy 28 C, Greens Ledge and Anchors Reef on clams or jigs. Ron Kraft found a biscuit that weighed 2.05 pounds on Rob’s scale. Squid should be under the lights from the local waters this week coming up.
