Jerry's Bait and Tackle

From what Rick in Milford reported plenty of trout are being caught in the Central Wildlife District. Josh and Joe have been hitting Pratt Pond for five or six stockies every time out, most on green PowerBait/mealworm kabobs. Another fellow picked up two brookies at Pratt Pond, one on a shiner and one on a night crawler, and a third gent scored a 20-inch tiger trout on a shiner at Ashland Reservoir. Paul, the brown trout expert, has been working Quacumquasit (South) Pond for 15- to 17-inch browns on trolled shiners, and a couple of other trouters went to Round Top Pond in Burrillville, Rhode Island. and popped a bunch of trout there. Rick also passed along reports from Ron Powers who tallied lake trout at Wachusett Reservoir and from Tommy who witnessed another angler catch several 2-pound-class landlocked salmon on night crawlers in the vicinity of the Old Stone Church at The Chu. On the bass scene, Lake Maspenock (North Pond) produced largemouths on shiners-from-shore, and Brian, the kayaker, contacted largemouths and pickerel on shiners at different venues including Hopedale Pond, Louisa Lake, and Milford Pond.

Rick in Milford told us about Barry White who has been catching his six-trout limit of rainbows from shore every time out at Pratt Pond. He has also been scoring trout at Ashland Reservoir and Hopkinton Reservoir. The local bike-ridin’ kids continue to have fun with sunfish and small largemouth bass on minnows everywhere they fish, last week being Ashland Reservoir. Also, an elderly gent hit Wachusett Reservoir for a few lakers. (Lake trout fishing at The Chu should get better as autumn progresses and water gets colder. The impoundment stays open through December 31.) On the bass scene, North Pond produced a few nice largemouths on shiners. In addition, Rick mentioned that two big largemouths, both scaling 5 to 6 pounds, were caught by two different anglers at Milford Pond a couple of weeks back. One of the lunkers hit a plastic worm delivered from shore; the other, a shiner sent from a kayak.
