Jerry's Bait and Tackle

Rick in Milford is not happy with the weather—too rainy, windy and chilly—but has no problem with the fishing. Bass are still on the slow side but speeding up a little bit each day. Trout, though, are going strong everywhere they have been stocked including Pratt Pond where Billy D.’s catching brookies, Uncas Pond where Tony F. is reeling in rainbows, and Hopkinton Reservoir where fishermen are tangling with tigers. Pratt Pond, Singletary Lake, and Lake Cochituate were stocked May 5; Quacumquasit (South) Pond, Uncas Pond, Webster Lake and Wallum Lake received trout May 6; and West River accepted trout May 8.

Rick in Milford said people are crabbing about the raw, windy weather but not the fishing. Everyone’s catching trout at numerous stocked waters including Uncas Lake, Ashland Reservoir, Hopkinton Reservoir, Milford Pond and Louisa Lake, the latter two stocked recently by local conservation commissions. Bass are hitting better now as well. One of last week’s more interesting bass reports came from a fellow who caught largemouths on topwater lures at North Pond. Rick also heard from one of his buddies that bass are on beds in ponds in Rhode Island. Pout Pond was stocked with trout April 30.
