Will from the Montauk Anglers Club reported a decent striped bass bite in the surf, with fish reaching into the 40-inch class. The south side rocks and sandy beaches stretching west from town have been producing some quality fish. Opening week of blackfish season was also solid for anglers who managed to get out, while the sea bass bite continues to hold up well. False albacore are still making their presence known around the Point, with epoxy jigs proving effective when the fish pop up on the surface.

At the Montauk Anglers Club, I heard from Chris Albronda who said fishing was really good with suspending jerk baits in yellow perch color. The smallmouth bass were on the prowl, they wanted sharp jerks with long pauses. Largemouths and walleye moved into deeper water and could be targeted using drop shots, Senko, and a variety of finesse baits (the Ned rig worked best). The panfish like crappie and white perch were loaded up at the launching ramp in fort pond. A worm on a float was the key to success.

Will from the Montauk Anglers Club reported that the inshore false albacore fishing has been red hot, particularly along the north side of Montauk Point. Anglers have been enjoying outstanding sessions, with some boats landing 25 to 30 albies in a single outing. Bluefish have also been mixed into the action, adding to the excitement when schools of fish push bait to the surface. Striped bass fishing has been somewhat inconsistent since the recent nor'easter, with periods of good action followed by slower stretches. Block Island has been producing some decent fishing, while giant bluefin tuna have been spotted around the Ditch Plains area. Farther offshore, the Hydrographer Canyon and Veatch Canyon areas have also been holding tuna, giving offshore crews additional options when conditions allow for a run.
