At the Montauk Anglers Club, I heard from resident sharpie Chris Albronda who said, “Anglers that have been focusing on Fort Pond were rewarded with some smallies to 5 pounds on Ned rigs.” Chris also fished one of my favorite areas – right in front of the launch ramp. For some reason, schools of white perch set up there and largemouths go nuts after them. Chris found that they wanted a suspending jerk bait. Chris also scored well on the panfish, using bread balls. He had over 40 yellow and white perch!

Will from the Montauk Anglers Club reported that the fluke bite has been picking up, with quality fish ranging from 5 to 11 pounds being caught. The MBCA tournament wrapped up on Sunday with some impressive fish hitting the scales. Offshore, the inshore bluefin bite is becoming increasingly consistent, with 45- to 50-inch fish taking jigs around Habs. Some yellowfin have also started pushing closer to the Island with the warmer water, adding another option for boats heading offshore.

At the Montauk Anglers Club, I heard from Chris Albronda who said with a full moon, the walleye bite at night has been incredible! Chris has heard of reports of large walleye on top water at night. In fact, Chris hooked into a very, very large one that he lost unfortunately. During the day, the largemouth bite has been great, the smallmouth seems to have disappeared. Normally when we get this amount of rain, the SMB become very active around the shore, but that doesn’t seem to be the case right now. Chumming for panfish has been effective, white bread and corn tossed into an area you can cast to makes all the difference. Crappie, white perch, yellow perch, and bluegill are susceptible to chum.

Will from the Montauk Anglers Club reported the bluefin bite has been centered between CIA and Habs, with jigs accounting for most of the action. Trolling has been most productive during the first light to sunrise window. Large schools of squid and oversized mackerel are fueling the bite offshore. Closer to home, jumbo porgies remain red hot around the Lighthouse, while the sea bass bite continues to improve on Frisbees. Offshore canyon boats are also enjoying steady yellowfin tuna and white marlin action.
