Will from the Montauk Anglers Club reported the bass bite slowed a bit during the recent heat wave, with many fish pushing toward Block Island. Sea bass and porgy fishing both improved, while Cartwright continues to produce better fluke catches. Bluefin to 50 inches are being found as close as 15 miles south of the Point, and yellowfin are showing up well inside the traditional canyon grounds.

At the Montauk Anglers Club, I heard from Chris Albronda on the freshwater action close by. Chris said, “Fort Pond has been a blast this season! We’ve had a ton of action with largemouth and smallmouth bass during the day. A few walleyes are also popping up during the day, but most of them are caught at night. The white perch has been great at the launch ramp, munching on white bread.” Chris also said the fishing has been surprisingly good with a small float and a small jig head working really well.
