Sea Rogue Charters

Capt. Bob Schmitt of Sea Rogue Charters in Freeport said that he is quite pleased with the bay fluke action. The trips are averaging four to eight keepers to 23-inches and a good number of shorts. The fish are being taken on high/low rigs and small bucktails. The Gulp chartreuse 4-inch mullets and chartreuse teasers are nailing the flatties. Sometimes it helps to tip the Gulp with a small spearing. The outgoing tide has produced the best results. Loads of jumbo blues to 10-pounds plus have been in the by catch. Capt. Bob Schmitt of Sea Rogue Charters in Freeport said that William and Chang joined him for the opening day of fluke. He hit the usual early season back bay spots to find the warmer water, which is hovering around the 58 to 60 degree mark. The captain worked the entire ebb and found good life and quality fish. They iced up seven NY keepers so it was a solid start to the season. Backwater Custom Baits with chartreuse/lime poison tail teasers was the killer lure. Earlier in the week, Timmy O’Connor drilled and hammered a bulldog ‘tog of 13-pounds to bring a nice close to the blackfish season. To book prime dates please call (516) 551-2177.
