On the party boat Shinnecock Star, Capt. John sailed a few crew trips for cod during January and found a fair showing of cod scattered over the local pieces. The offshore pieces remain loaded with big sea bass that had to be returned. The Star will begin their Peconic Bay spring bonanza on May 1st, chasing giant sea porgies, weakfish, blues and fluke. On the party boat Shinnecock Star, Capt. John reports it was a windy and cold December, which limited the number of days the boat was able to sail. Blackfish bite pretty well when the boat made it out locally, while the offshore sea bass run produced limits of big sea bass, some cod, scup and ling. Capt. John has called it a season and will again raise the curtains starting May 1st sailing into the Peconic’s for giant porgies, weakfish and fluke. On the party boat Shinnecock Star, Capt. John reports the boat will be fishing either blackfish or offshore sea bass wrecks until December 15th. After the 15th, the boat will be sailing strictly offshore sea bass until December 31st before calling it a season. Dress warm and dry this time of year, you can always take it off. On the party boat Shinnecock Star, Capt. John reports Monday’s offshore sea bass/cod trip produced great fishing in tee shirt weather. Limits of sea bass to 4 ½-pounds and some cod made it aboard. The local blackfish trips have been on and off with some days seeing better fishing than other days. Green, white, and hermit crabs are all producing fish to 8-pounds. Rough seas kept the boat at the dock during mid-week, with tog fishing bouncing back well on the weekend.

Arnold Jones had six one day this week, only keeping his four, while Tom nailed 5 along with the big fish of the week of 8-pounds. On the party boat Shinnecock Star, Capt. John reports the blackfish bite has been good at the reef this week with fish to 9-pounds. On Saturday in nice weather the tog bite remarkably well with lots of limits for all on board. Billy Scotti had the hot hand, nailing 7 keeper blackfish to 6-pounds only retaining his limit. The wind put an appearance on Sunday keeping the boat tied to the dock. On the party boat Shinnecock Star, Capt. John reports that last Sunday’s offshore trip did produce plenty of big sea bass and big fat red hake. Pool winner was Jimmy Hall with a jumbo sea bass. Monday’s first blackfish trip of the season produced excellent fishing with a full boat limit of blackfish to 8 ½-pounds. Some nice sea bass and big scup filled out the coolers. The rest of the week was spent fishing for blackfish with each day producing a good bite for all on board using green, hermit, and white crabs. Joe Pipe had the big fish for the week, which went 9-pounds even. Come get them while the bite is hot. On the party boat Shinnecock Star, Capt. John reports the 2020 fluke season is in the books, ending with a pick of nice fish in the bay. Jimmy from Virginia took the last fluke pool on Tuesday and another mug for his collection. During the week and weekend the Star stayed local picking away at the Shinnecock Reef’s annual fall mix bag. On the party boat Shinnecock Star, Capt. John reports windy days in the bay this week however patrons fought through it and nailed some quality fluke. On Wednesday Ken has the first fish of the day and it held up for the mug of money. Thursday finally saw the wind and seas lay down which resulted in a tough pick of sea bass, due to the previous days of sloppy seas. Starting this Thursday, October 1st the Star will be sailing for what is biting best at the time which can be bottom fishing or/and diamond jigging blues. On the party boat Shinnecock Star, Capt. John reports the prime tide fluke in the bay trips continues to be great fishing in 6 to 10-feet of water. Eddie and Ryan Shores both had limits to Ryan’s 6-pounder on Monday. Nick also had his limit, while Mary, Rich, and Jeff all had close to their limits. Fares had nonstop action throughout the entire trip. Tuesday saw boat regular Ed land a 10-pound beauty in 10-feet of water. A quick measure by first mate Deena, then Ed went on to safely release a healthy and frisky doormat to live another day. Kudo’s to you Ed, you are a true sportsman. Wednesday again saw Vinny D’Antonio snatch up his limit of flatties to 6-pounds as did James Santiago. Thursday saw nice bite in the bay with Timothy Carey nailing his limit and took the pool, and Terry had three. Different days, different locations catch the fish depending on conditions. Saturday’s trip picked away all day with Mike taking the morning pool. The afternoon saw Gunke’s group enjoyed a pick with John taking the pool on the same rig that took the pool on Thursday. Keeper sea bass, nice, porgies and kingfish are also coming from the bay. The Star will continue fishing prime tide in the bay for as long as the fluke remain situated in the skinny water. On the party boat Shinnecock Star, an excited Capt. John reports the skinny water prime tide trips this week were super with lots of action and fish to 7-pounds. On Labor Day, Bobby Macgregor has his limit and took both the morning and afternoon pools. Some other fares had their limit also. Tuesday’s trip was insane from start to finish with nonstop action and everyone on board having their limits. The mates were filleting fish at the dock. Best bay trip all season by far. Wednesday was another super day with Vinny D’Antonio catching a 6-pound-pool winner. The Star is now sailing special half-day trips during prime tides. You can give Capt. On the party boat Shinnecock Star, Capt. John reports good action in the bay with lots of action and some quality keepers. The ocean bite continues to be good when they can get out of the inlet. On Monday, Savarino had his limit, while Mary took the pool with a six-pounder from six feet of water. Bay Day Tuesday was hot and cold with a lot of smaller fish and some keepers hitting the box. Lee took the pool with an 8-1/2-pound flattie. Despite the overcast skies it was a fun day on Wednesday starting off the morning trip chasing bait and birds in the inlet with Grey, Grady, Liam, and Kate trolling up some blues and Spanish mackerel before heading off to the fluke grounds where young Anthony took the pool with a fish caught on his new rod gifted from his grandfather Kevin. On the party boat Shinnecock Star, Capt. John reports ocean fishing is either red hot or took some work this week with some nice ocean fluke and sea bass coming aboard. The same goes for inside the bay which is smoking or takes some effort. All in all there are plenty of fluke around, it’s just a matter of when they decide to chew. Vitale had his limit and the pool using small bucktails with lots of movement on Thursday. Friday morning saw the Sherwin Williams gang enjoy good fishing during prime tide in the bay. The boat mixes the trip according to the tide; however the boat stays in the bay on Tuesday’s and sails twice daily with 3-hour charters available every evening.
