“The weather has got me sitting in the shop and talking to myself,” said Steve over at Smith Bait and Tackle in Leipsic. The wind started howling on Monday and was still blowing strong when I spoke to him to his report. Most of the lakes and ponds had turned over and were just starting to give up some good numbers of fish when Steve said the storm reared its ugly head.

At Smith Bait Steve said boats could not get out on Delaware Bay due to the rough seas. Few if any fished from land due to the strong winds.

Another person that gave hope of some good fishing in October was Steve over at Smith Bait and Tackle in Leipsic. Steve said the fishing as of September 20 had really started shifting into fall mode, especially the crappie fishing. The shop had several anglers come in that fished the Nanticoke River with stringers of nice size crappies taken on twisters fished under floats. Bass fishing was also on the upswing with big minnows taking bass at Garrisons Lake, Lums Pond, Moores Lake and Silver Lake.

At Smith Bait Steve told us fishing from Port Mahon was good the last of September and will only improve in October. Look for bigger croaker and spot on the reef sites with the occasional trout and flounder there as well. Worms or Fishbites for the spot and croaker with a yellow bucktail and a yellow worm or crab bait for the trout. Nothing beats a live minnows for flounder.
