Crappies and snakeheads supplied the bulk of the fishing this past week in the Diamond State, stated Steve over at Smith Bait and Tackle in Leipsic. The top fish that was weighed in was a 9-pound snakehead by Branden Snyder. If you are looking for the crappies Garrisons Lake, Silver Lake and Massey Mills have been the hot spots. As to the largemouth most are either on the beds or in the pre-spawn areas, we were told.

Our first report the Diamond State came from Steve over at Smith Bait and Tackle Leipsic. He said crappie fishing is the number one source of action in Horsey’s Pond, Massey Mills and Garrisons Lake. Most of the crappies are being taken on small minnows and small jig combinations fished under floats in the early evenings. In addition some nice bass are also being taken on livelined minnows.

At Smith Bait Steve told us that Greens Beach and the fishing pier at Woodland Beach are still seeing some big striped bass caught and released on bloodworms and cut bunker. The tidal creeks and rivers hold white perch and catfish that will take bloodworms or special catfish bait.
