THE BLOCK ISLAND WIND FARM, RI

Love it or hate it, the horizon off the southeast corner of Block Island is now dotted with a string of wind farm turbines.

THE CENTER WALL, PT. JUDITH, RI

The middle or Center Wall lies just west of Pt. Judith, Rhode Island, forming the Point Judith Harbor of Refuge. Construction of the harbor walls began in 1891 and was ultimately completed in 1950.

LONG SAND SHOAL, CT

It doesn’t require much imagination to guess how Long Sand Shoal earned its descriptive name. Stretching 6 miles from its east-end bell to its west-end gong, Long Sand Shoal spans the towns of Old Saybrook and Westbrook, Connecticut, and its midpoint rests 1-1/2 miles south of Cornfield Point.

They told me they wanted to fish an isolated location, away from the contested waters from Watch Hill to Long Island where access was either limited or non-existent.

BROWNS REEF, LONG ISLAND SOUND

“Browns Reef,” as it’s referred to by Branford bottom fishing regulars, is actually a cluster of individual structures, each with its own name and navigational aid, but often collectively known as “Browns.”

MANSFIELD HOLLOW, MANSFIELD, CT

Mansfield Hollow Lake is located within Mansfield Hollow State Park in Connecticut and is a popular year-round destination for anglers from across New England.

THE MILLER WRECK, NY

Sail approximately 13 miles southeast of Moriches Inlet to the coordinates above and you’ll be sitting smack over the Miller Wreck, which is the remains of a long ago sunken tug boat.

COXES, MA SUMMERTIME COD

Coxes Ledge is located about 25 miles southwest of Westport, MA, 20 miles southeast of Point Judith, RI and about 35 miles east of Montauk, NY. It’s a large area and can be easily fished when the weather is good from many ports in southern New England.

BARNEGAT LIGHT REEF, NJ

Easily accessible and perfectly productive for both small and large boaters, the Barnegat Light Reef is an easy 3.1-mile run straight east out of Barnegat Inlet.

HORTONS POINT, NY

Frequently referred to as the “Land of the Giants” for the big fluke taken here during the spring and summer, there are many more opportunities here that are overlooked by those just targeting fluke.

SLIM SHAD POINT, HOLYOKE, MA

This spot is located right along the main funneling point of which American shad traveling upstream to spawn must pass. Essentially any open spot along this shoreline produces fish, but every angler has his or her preferred casting perch.

EATONS NECK TRIANGLE, NY

The Triangle is popular through the season for striped bass, bluefish, porgies, sea bass and blackfish.

ELBERON ROCKS, NJ

The Elberon Rocks are, generally, the grounds are a 2.5-square mile area off of Elberon, Deal and Long Branch.

DUCK ISLAND, CT

Menunketesuck and Duck islands, both located a short distance from the beaches, are the main fishing features of Westbrook.

THE PIN TOP, DE

Though it’s been hit or miss the past few years, when the boom or bust black drum bite in Delaware Bay is booming, one of the main hot spots for drummin’ includes the Pin Top.
