JAN. 21 FISHERIES FORUM AT HACKETTSTOWN - The Fisherman

JAN. 21 FISHERIES FORUM AT HACKETTSTOWN

A public forum to discuss freshwater fisheries research, management and recreational angling in New Jersey will be held on Saturday, January 21 at the Hackettstown State Fish Hatchery in Warren County.

The forum, presented by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) Division of Fish and Wildlife will begin at 10 a.m. and provides an opportunity to learn about existing programs and to share your views and recommendations.

The NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife holds forums to improve communication with the angling public and to solicit public input in shaping freshwater fisheries programs in the future. The forums are a perfect opportunity for all freshwater anglers to learn about existing programs and to share their views and recommendations.

The January 21 discussion will highlight the recently completed Coolwater Species assessment. This three-year project focused on evaluating the Division’s coolwater stocking program for muskellunge, northern pike, hybrid striped bass and walleye. The presentation will also include excerpts from the Division’s Warmwater/Coolwater survey.

NJDEP said the second talk will Highlight Warmwater Culture Operations at the Division’s Hackettstown State Fish Hatchery. The Hackettstown Hatchery reared and distributed over 3,000,000 fish, representing 15 different species, in 2016.

As always, there will be ample time for open discussion with professional staff to answer any questions or address concerns of anglers during the extended question and answer period.

Pre-registration is not required but is appreciated, and will help ensure that all attendees can be accommodated. Individuals can pre-register by calling 908-236-2118 or by sending an e-mail to [email protected]. Be sure to include name, address, phone number and the number of people attending.
