NEW JERSEY DIVISION SURVEY FOR FISHING BUSINESSES

Here is a request posted today from the New Jersey Division Fish and Wildlife. Thanks to the New Jersey Outdoor Alliance for bringing this to our attention:

NEW JERSEY DIVISION SURVEY FOR FISHING BUSINESSES

Due to the recent destruction surrounding "Superstorm" Sandy, the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife is attempting to develop an initial assessment of the damage to New Jersey’s recreational and commercial fishing fleets and infrastructure. We are sending this information through our Saltwater Registry Program in an attempt to determine the amount of damage you incurred specifically related to your for-hire operations, including estimates of time lost on the water.

We would appreciate it if you could please take the time to answer a few questions to get us started. We are considering any loss of fishing/damage that occurred since Saturday, October 27 2012.

1. On a scale of 0 to 5 (with 0 meaning no damage and 5 being total loss), could you determine your best estimate of damage you suffered as a direct result of the storm:

a. To your vessel:

b. To your docking facilities:

2. Where/if applicable, on a scale of 0 to 5 (with 0 meaning no damage and 5 being total loss), could you determine your best estimate of damage you suffered as a direct result of the storm:

a. To the marina you own (please specify marina name):

b. To the marina where you dock your vessel (please specify marina name):

3. Can you determine an estimate of monetary value as to how much income was lost to you personally due to not being able to leave the dock for fishing, whether for damage, waterway closures or lack of customers due to no power or evacuation?

4. Can you determine an estimate of monetary value of the total damage (1 and 2 above) and loss of income (3 above) due to Sandy?

5. Although it is very hard to determine the future costs of these impacts, can you give an estimate as to the cost that you may incur from now through the initiation of your 2013 fishing season?

Thank you for taking the time to assist us during this troubling time. The Division plans to provide this information to other State agencies to assist in the evaluation of all impacts that occurred from Sandy. This is a very informal assessment so please feel free to pass along to others especially if they do not have access to emails at this time due to power loss. Also, any suggestions you have that would help us during this assessment are welcome.

Please send your responses by fax to 609 -748 -2032.

You can also email them to saltwaterregistry@dep.state.nj.us

Thank you for your time.
