On this week’s Open Boat we are taking a negative and making it into a positive. The bluefin closure mid-season threw a massive wind knot in every angler’s line however, anglers are taking catch and release to a whole other level with the catch and releasing of bluefin tuna. As stated through NOAA fisheries: “During a closure, recreational fishermen may continue to catch-and-release, or tag and release, bluefin tuna of all sizes, subject to the requirements of the catch-and-release and tag-and-release programs”. So continue they do and featured on this week’s Open Boat is Capt. Jerry Malanga discussing how they handle the catch and release and overall conservation of a species very seriously.
