The CT DEEP Marine Fisheries Program is holding two public informational meetings to get input on potential changes to recreational management measures for scup in 2019 and to provide information on the status of other important recreational species.

At the February Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) Summer Flounder, Scup and Black Sea Bass Management Board meeting, the Board approved a range of options for changes to scup recreational measures in “northern region” states (CT, NY, RI, MA). Options include increasing the length of the season, increasing the bag limit to 50 fish for all anglers, increasing just the for-hire bag limit to 50 fish during the existing for-hire bonus season, and increasing the length of the for-hire bonus season. Status quo measures identical to 2018 measures are also an option. DEEP is seeking public input on possible changes to 2019 recreational measures for scup.
At this time, DEEP anticipates no changes to recreational seasons, bag limits or size limits for any species other than scup in 2019. However, the DEEP Marine Fisheries Program will provide information on the status of important recreational species including striped bass, bluefish, summer flounder, and black sea bass.
