The first spring stripers are still months away but you can shorten the wait by attending Surfcaster Journal’s Striper Day at Ward Melville High School this Sunday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The school is located at 380 Old Town Road, Setauket, NY 11733.
The first 500 attendees will receive a goody bag valued at more than the cost of the $15 admission price. And be sure to purchase some raffle tickets of which 100 percent goes toward supporting the school’s youth fishing club. There are loads of great prizes from donors like Van Staal, St. Croix, Lamiglas, Shimano, Tsunami, Pelican, ODM and many more.
This is a great opportunity to sharpen your surf fishing skills by attending some of the seminars that run throughout the day. Master rod builder Lou Caruso will be sharing his extensive knowledge of the craft, Surf guide Bill Wetzel tells all you need to know to successfully fish the Montauk surf, John Skinner will discuss daytime opportunities in the suds, Al Albano will cover wetsuiting on the North Shore, Dave Anderson and Jerry Audet will break down how to fish a new location, and Matt Broderick will share the unique experience of fishing the nighttime surf.
Between the seminars, you can browse and shop aisles filled with vendors of surf fishing products, factory representatives, well known authors, guides, tackle shops, plug builders and more.
For more details, go to the show website at www.striperday.com. Tickets are $15 and only available in person on the day of the show.
