New England - South Shore Massachusetts to Maine Fishing Reports
New England Video Fishing Forecast May 22, 2025
Yes, the stripers are getting bigger, Lexi Taylor and Ella Schneider show off two cows landed in Narragansett Bay this week. But the bay isn’t the only hotspot for heavyweight stripers, we’re hearing about big fish from Boston to Barnstable and from Woods Hole clear to the New York border! Thanks to Joey and Nina from Woozy Sportfishing for the photo! Weakfishing continues to punch above its weight from Narragansett Bay to Long Island Sound. And fluking has really picked up over the last 7 days. We’ve got a stormy start to the holiday weekend ahead, but it looks like there will be plenty of opportunities to get out there on Sunday and Monday, make the most of it!
South Shore Massachusetts to Maine Fishing Reports
Greg Metcalf-South Shore Massachusetts to Maine Highlights

The saltwater fishing from the South Shore of Massachusetts to Portland, Maine took a giant leap forward this week. The arrival of mackerel, sea herring and alewives definitely turned the dinner bell on. Northern New England migrating stripers have arrived in big numbers to the delight of eager striper fishermen. The initial hot action was pretty much confined to the rivers and marshes, but this week the beaches came alive with stripers of all sizes from 14 to 40 inches. Local water temperatures reached the low 50’s this week, which greatly helped the flounder fishing. Fishing in Duxbury, Quincy Bay and Boston Harbor kicked into high gear. Haddock and cod fishing on Stellwagen Bank, Platt’s Bank and may of the inside humps and ledges has been decent but the action on Jeffrey’s Ledge has been great. There have been several reports of slot stripers in and around the North River in Scituate. There are also plenty of mackerel and herring to keep them there. This is a great time of the season in Northern New England. Freshwater trout fishing is excellent and more migratory gamefish are moving into our coastal waters every day. Fishing prospects are improving as Memorial Day approaches and the 2025 fishing season kicks in to high gear.

Shane rom Belsan’s Bait and Tackle told me the striper fishing in the North River was very good this week. The beachfront off of Peggotty Beach has also been very productive. There are plenty of school sized fish with a few keepers in the mix. There was also a 40-inch striper caught and released on Sunday morning in the North River. Mackerel have also arrived on the scene which means striper fishing should improve with lots of fresh, and very catchable, live bait. There is some decent flounder fishing inside the harbor between the yacht club and old Coast Guard station. Haddock fishing on Stellwagen has been very good and cod are being caught around Stone Ledge. Tautog are now regularly being caught around all the rocky ledges like Minot and Three Sisters. The store is open seven days a week

Martha from Surfland told me the stripers are in. There are plenty of fresh schools of stripers arriving around Plum Island every day. Most of the action has been in the river, with not many take from the oceanfront. There were some reports that Sandy Point and Plum Island Sound has been producing fish. Most of the fish have been in the 24- to 30-inch range, with not too many smaller schoolies in the mix. There have also been quite a few fish in the 35- to 40-inch range for early in the season. Every day is a little different as the season starts to develop. Shad fishing at Rock’s Village is sporadic. They hit one day, then slow the next. Surfland is open 7 days a week.
