On April 15, DEC and the Long Island Office of New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation once again hosted the Belmont Lake Freshwater Fishing Festival at Belmont Lake State Park.

Activities included open fishing, casting instruction, rod use, fish identification, fishing instruction, fly-casting demonstrations, and a fish cleaning station.

Children’s activities included the “Spring Fling” casting contest, as well as hands-on educational displays by DEC’s Education Unit. Children participating in the casting contest won prizes supplied by DEC’s I FISH NY Program.

Attendance for the festival was about 4,000 visitors with about 300 people including many children taking part in fishing activities.

Additional sponsors for the fishing festival include the Natural Heritage Trust, The Fisherman Magazine, Seaford Knights of Columbus Fishing Club, and the Art Flick Chapter Trout Unlimited.
