On July 23, ECO Maynard responded to Waterfront Park in Staten Island for reports of poaching. He conducted surveillance and observed an angler catch multiple undersized fluke (summer flounder) and hand them to two other individuals nearby, who placed the fish in a plastic bag. ECO Maynard approached the trio, located the plastic bag, and discovered five undersized fluke ranging from 13 to 16 inches in length. Officer Maynard ticketed the group for offenses, including taking undersized fluke, exceeding the daily bag limit, and no marine registry. The next day, ECO Maynard returned to the park and observed a different angler catching undersized fluke. That individual was found in possession of four fluke ranging from 15 to 18 inches in length. The angler received three tickets for taking undersized fluke, exceeding the daily bag limit, and failure to possess a marine registry. Fluke must be 19 inches in length from May 4 to August 1, with a daily bag limit of three fish. From August 2 to October 15, fluke caught in New York State must be 19.5 inches in length, with the same daily bag limit of three fish.
